PhD Student/ Research Assistant (f/m/d)

Job description:

ScalNEXT – Scalable Network-centric EXecuTion

The Computer Architecture and Parallel Processing research group has been successfully researching new technologies in the field of High-Performance Computing for many years.

Modern HPC systems are characterized by the ever-increasing performance of the computing nodes, which are also becoming increasingly heterogeneous and complex. However, the actual system structure has remained more or less the same since the introduction of cluster architectures: powerful nodes execute independent programs that communicate via a network and thus coordinate parallel execution. The networks are mostly passive - apart from minimal tasks, such as reduction calculations - which leaves all three core tasks of a parallel program, the calculations, global data management and global control management, in the computing nodes, often even split between many processes in one node.

The ScalNEXT project addresses these challenges and develops new technologies to enable the use of smart networks in HPC. The aim of ScalNEXT is to increase the scalability of HPC systems and applications.

In addition to the work in the above project, the field of activity includes working at the KIT chair. This includes teaching as well as supervising students in the context of seminar papers, bachelor or master theses.

Qualification: The candidate should preferably have completed a degree in computer science or electrical engineering with a very good diploma or master's degree, have previous knowledge in one or more of the topics listed above and have a strong motivation to familiarize themselves with this subject in the depth required for a doctorate.
